Recreation
The King George V playing field in the centre of the village is held by the Parish Council on a long lease, together with the changing rooms that adjoin ‘Rockys’. Maintenance, including grass cutting, repairs and improvements to the field and its facilities are the responsibility of the Parish Council, except where additional facilities have been provided by sports clubs themselves.
Clubs based at the King George V field include:
- Papworth Football Club
- Papworth Blasters (colts football)
- Papworth Bowls Club
- Papworth Tennis Club
In addition the Parish Council has recently completed the constriction of a pavilion building, for use by sporting clubs.
Children’s Play Area – Ermine Street North
Papworth Everard has been renowned for its well-equipped children’s play area and paddling pool since the 1950s. In 2010, the Parish Council redeveloped the play area and modernised the main equipment, assisted by a grant from a scheme administered by Cambridgeshire County Council.
A Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) was also added on the site of the old tennis courts on the corner of Chequers Lane and Baron’s Way.
In May 2022, 8 items of outdoor gym equipment were installed on the playing fields. The Outdoor Gym is for use by individuals 1.4m and taller and is not children’s play equipment.
The paddling pool is open throughout the school summer holidays and sometimes for a few weeks afterwards, depending on the weather.
Maintaining and monitoring the pool is an important task for which the council offers remuneration on a part-time basis. The position is sometimes vacant as the new season approaches and is open to job share. Please check the News page on this website for details of any vacancies.
Allotments
The allotments are located behind the Sterling Way Business Park and are run by the Papworth Everard Allotments Association.
Chairman: Wayne Birch
Secretary/ Membership Secretary: Leisha Hopgood
Papworth Everard Youth Club
As at January 2014, in advance of the village hall renovation project the Parish Council had no venue in which the youth club could meet, therefore the Youth Club was suspended until further notice.
Updates will be made available on this page.
Cemetery
The cemetery in Papworth Everard is managed by the Parish Council, who are responsible for the maintenance of the churchyard and cemetery and administer the allocation and provision of burial plots in the cemetery.
Plots are available for full interments and the interment of ashes.
Funeral Directors and Stonemasons should direct their enquiries to the Clerk.
