In 2019 the Parish Council has took part in a pilot project with South Cambs District Council to create a Village Design Statement.

The purpose of this project, funded by central Government was to raise the quality of new planned development and support inclusive, sustainable growth.

A Village Design Guide describes the distinctive character of the village and sets out guidelines for how this should be enhanced by new developments. The statements show how buildings, streets, spaces, landscape and materials come together to create areas with distinctive identity and character.

The idea of the process is to ensure any new development is responsive to the character of the community that it is adding to, and enhances it. The documents will help communities express what is important to them about the visual character of their village, provide clarity for developers on design issues, and enable Council planners to push for high quality design.

The Village Design Guide documents will be material planning considerations used as as Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) during the planning process.

The Papworth Everard Village Design Guide was officially adopted by South Cambs District Council on 15 January 2020.

The SPDs and the adoption documents can be viewed online at the Council’s website: and inspected at the Council’s offices: South Cambridgeshire Hall, Cambourne Business Park, Cambourne, CB23 6EA during normal office hours.
